| 摘要 | What could be the nature of the meaning in Linguistics? There has been many attempts to clarify it through the various points of views. Here, the meaning in Linguistics can be explained through the two perspectives: psychological and physical. From the first perspective, the psychological point of view, the meaning can be grasped through the psychological images, thinking, and concepts. The psychological image can be clarified as an shape and form occurred into one's mind when the object of the meaning is absent. Books, for example, is the image occurred into one's mind when one has heard the word 'books'. That is to say, the meaning of the word, book, can only be arisen form the psychological image of book in one's mind. From the second perspective, the physical point of view, the meaning can be taken from the actual object outside in the world. Books, for instance, can be referred to as an actual book we can see through our eyes. In the Indian Linguistic Philosophy, the meaning of the word has been explained through the theory of sphoṭa. Sphoṭa can be clarified as the power of language through which the meaning of a word can be delivered, while sound(śabda) is the only the cause of its manifestation. This paper deals with the theory of sphoṭa in terms of the relationship between the words and the sentence in the Sanskrit Language. |
