| 摘要 | The essay is to reinterpret the principle of 'benefiting both oneself and others' of Buddhism in the utilitarian viewpoint and further is proposing its new version, that is, the principle of 'benefiting both oneself(having priority) and others'. I think that this kind of academictrial would be appealing to the moderns regardless of theoretical issues surrounding this interpretation. For human beings are generally recognised as a self-regarding animal in both natural and social state by Social Biology. The perception of these innate natural facts says that Buddhist concept of ethics, for example, the above principle should reflect on men's self-interest oriented nature, and then needed to revision and rewrite it in the modern ethical style. In this respect, I personally think that the comparative study between the principle of 'benefiting both oneself and others' and the classic utilitarian thinking. This thesis is dealing with the argumental process of it and as its concluding remarks, is suggesting a new version's action manual: "First of all, do think and act in the self-interested way! And at the same time(if possible) do reconsider that my own selected action would do contribute to the interest of others, too!" Of course there could be enough ground for controversy over my subjective utilitarian reestablishment of the principle of 'benefiting both oneself and others' of Buddhism. I promise that I will speak in defense of these questions on the other paper in near future. |
