Due to his family influence and upbringing,He Zhendai began to embrace Buddhism since adolescence. His Buddhist thought can be divided into three levels, the first being the secular beliefs in worshiping Buddhas for their blessings; the second being the detachment from worldly affairs which was embodied in his poems composed when he was associating with other monks; the third being the integration of the three religions( Buddhism,Taoism and Confucianism),for the purpose of self-cultivation according to Confucianism. He Zhendai’s Buddhist thought is a manifestation of secular Buddhism.
