| 摘要 | The purpose of this article is to broaden the horizon of Applied Buddhology through critical reflection on the existing research methods in the Buddhist Studies and the religiological understanding of Buddhist thought. In this treatise: Firstly, the history of western religology, the character and method of modern religiology have been critically reviewed. Secondly, the meaning of modern Buddhology have been examined through a discussion about the possibilities of establishing an inter-complementary relationship with religiology. Thirdly, in this global era, a new alternative has been suggested to construct a universal religiology which comprises Buddhism and all other eastern religions. Up to now, most Buddhist scholars have classified religiology as a subsidiary to theological studies. With such a superficial treatment and understanding of religiology, it is difficult to recognize its true value in terms of universal Humane Studies and to promote an inter-complementary relationship with Buddhology. No one can deny the fact that Buddhism has developed dynamically as a major contributor to the cultural history of the world. Accordingly, our attitude and thinking is outdated if we neglect to converse and exchange with neighbouring studies and religions this global era. If we have more interest in various kinds of religions, we will bring a wider and more universal perspective to our understanding of Buddhism. Also we'll have a new understanding of Buddhism in relation to the world religious history which provide us with a new direction and interpretation in the Buddhist tradition. In particular, Buddhist scholars will realize the excellence of Buddhism through the study of comparative religions i.e. the universality and comprehensiveness of Buddhism which will lead the civilization of the 21st century. Thus, relogiological attainment is an indispensible requirement for the Buddhist researcher and the future of the new Buddhism. |
