| 摘要 | Korean Buddhist thinker, Wonhyo has widely carried out research on not only Theravāda vinaya such as Sabunyul, but also on Mahāyanā Bodhisattva sīla such as Beommanggye (梵網戒). He emphasized that the true meaning of the precepts lies in the expression of the extremely pure mind that is not encumbered by the words of the precepts. This point is well expressed in the preface of the first volume of Wonhyo's Bosalgyebonjibeomyogi (菩薩戒本持犯要記). Wonhyo is saying that while the faces of evil and good easily show themselves, the natures of vice and fortune are hard to distinguish. This is why he is placing importance on the state of the mind rather than the observation of the vinaya in form only. This precepts philosophy of Wonhyo's can be clearly seen in the 2nd volume of his work Beommangbosalgyebonsagi (梵網菩薩戒本私記). Placing the sīla of not killing living things first in his list of the 10 important sīla in the Beommang, Wonhyo divides them into the following four sections. Wonhyo's view of the precepts emphasizes the active practice of an extremely pure mind that is not attached to the words of the precepts. However, this viewpoint does not only belong to Wonhyo. This emphasis on the state of the mind can be consistently seen in the works of such Silla thinkers as Seungjang, Uijuk, Taehyun and so on. However, such a viewpoint of the Bodhisattva sīla faces the danger of easily going astray. This is because there is the possibility that an over-emphasis of the mental aspect of the sīla could lead to the neglection of the standard external forms or behavior, and in the context of Mahāyanā's prajñā and emptiness concepts, this could even lead to the denial of the existence of the precepts. Silla Buddhist thinkers agonized over this point greatly. Wonhyo discusses this form of violation of the Bodhisattva sīla Wonhyo clearly shows that one must not view in contempt both the mental (unseen, intangible) and external (seen, tangible) aspects of observing the sīla. That is, it is stressing the importance of not only the state of the mind but also external form or behavior as well. This is stressing that a Bodhisattva must not become attached to either the seen or unseen aspects of the sīla. If one becomes attached to the unseen aspect of sīla, this is because the person is denying its phenomenological aspect. Conversely, if one becomes attached to the seen aspect, the person is in discord with the true essence of the sīla. Therefore, neither case is an example of one who has remained true to the sīla. What is being emphasized here is that, although the Bodhisattva does not think that there is an absolute form of sīla, he must always remain mindful of the sīla. The Silla Buddhist thinker, Wonhyo, emphasized that one must not become attached to either the external form of the sīla nor the mental aspect of them. They have all pointed out that, if one only becomes attached to the mental aspect of the precepts, this constitutes a denial of the phenomenological aspect of the sīla. Conversely, if one becomes attached to the form of the sīla, or correct behavior, then this goes against the true essence of the sīla. Hence, in neither case can it be said that the precepts were being truly observed. |
