| 摘要 | 한국불교학회는 2013년 올해로 창립 40주년을 맞이하여 ‘한국불교학 40년, 그 연구 성과와 과제’라는 대주제를 가지고 추계학술대회를 개최하였다. 본 논문은 이 학술대회에 발표한 ‘불교문학의 연구현황과 과제’를 수정 보완한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 논의의 범위를 그동안 불교문학의 연구 현황과 성과, 과제를 소개하는 데 그 의의를 둔다. 본 논문의 구성은 다음과 같다. 먼저 첫 번째로 다룰 주 내용은 불교문학의 정의와 연구현황 개관이다. 여기서는 크게 3가지 측면인 불교문학의 의미, 범주와 국문학에서 분류한 불교문학, 그리고 지금까지 불교문학의 연구현황개관과 성과에 대하여 살폈다. 두 번째로 언급할 주 내용은 불교문학의 연구현황에 대한 접근방법과 연구 성과 및 과제이다. 여기서 중점적으로 다룰 주 내용은 연구현황에 대한 접근방법, 시기별 연구 현황과 성과, 그리고 해외의 연구동향과 앞으로의 과제이다. 또한 세부적으로는 전체적인 불교문학연구현황을 이해하는데 도움이 되도록 하기 위해서, 시대를 1950부터 1990년까지를 1차시기로, 1991년부터 2013년 현재까지를 2차시기로 구분하여 시대별, 인물별로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이것을 토대로 그동안의 연구성과와 앞으로의 과제를 제시해보고, 또한 해외의 연구동향은 일본과 중국, 독일, 미국의 사례를 중심으로 연구현황과 연구 과제를 언급하였다. 그 결과 불교와 문학의 관계나 불교문학의 본질에 관해서 관심을 가지기 시작한 이래, 그동안 불교문학에 대한 논의가 양적으로 상당한 괄목할만한 성장을 이루어왔다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 학문적 관심이 주어지지 않아 아직까지 미개척지로 남아 있는 영역도 의외로 많다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히 불전의 번역문학과 불전주석문학, 그리고 불교경전을 연계로 한 문헌설화에 대한 연구와 불교문학비평연구는 불교문학의 과제라고 하겠다. 그러므로 이러한 과제들이 전문적인 연구자에 의해 학문적 연구와 연계될 때 불교문학은 살아있는 붓다의 메시지로써 우리 곁에 항상 머물러 있을 것이라고 생각한다. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Korean Association for buddhist studies held autumn symposium with topic of "40 year study of Korean buddhism, its Achievements and assignments". this paper is a supplemented version of "Progress on buddhist literature studies and future tasks" presented in the symposium. This paper will focus on current progress of Buddhist literature, its achievements and issues to be solved. Main contents for this paper are as follows: First topic will be definition of buddhist literature and current on-going studies. Here, the three broad perspectives on buddhist literature will be discussed. Meaning of Buddhist literature, category and as Korean literature. Also, current progress of Buddhist literature will be mentioned. Second topic to be discussed is current progress and different types of approaches toward Buddhist literatures. Main contents to be discussed here is different types of approaches toward current studies, list of dated progress and achievements, and also trend of international research and unsolved issues. Also, in order to aid the overall understanding of current development of study, time range between 1950~1990 and 1991~2013 are labelled as 1st and 2nd period respectively, and each of the period has been further classified per era and per key historical figure. Based on this, achievements so far and issues to be debated has been suggested. For the study trend of the world, achievements and future goals are mentioned based on the cases from Japan, China, Germany, and USA. As a result of this analysis, It could be noticed that, since the interest on the essence of Buddhist literature or the relationship between buddhism and literature has arisen, studies and debates on the topic has shown significant increase in quantity. However, quite a large proportion of this area still remain untapped due to the lack of academic interest. Especially in-depth study on translated Buddhist canonical literatures (sūtras), annotations on sūtras, and tales linked with sūtras are one of the assignments awaiting to be solved. When such assignments are examined and inquired into by professional scholars, Buddhist literature will always remain with us as the living message of buddha. |
