摘要
한국 불교의식집에 나타나고 있는 여러 도상은 비록 일반적인 불교회화와는 약간의 거리가 있지만, 한 시대의 정신문화를 함께 향유하는 구성원들의 共時的 소통을 드러내 보임에는 부족함이 없다. 그러므로 조선후기 불교의식집에 나타나고 있는 도상은 당시의 다원적인 문화의식의 토대에서 형성된 사상⋅철학 내지 신앙 등의 융합상을 나타낸 것이며, 이는 또한 종교⋅철학⋅신앙 등에 대한 정신문화적 수용의 폭이 그만큼 넓어졌음을 보여주고 있다. 이를 본문에서는 ‘순수 불교 도상’, ‘중국의 사상⋅철학적 요소가 융합된 도상’, ‘풍속 및 신앙적 요소가 혼합된 도상’, ‘기타 도상’ 등의 네 범주로 분류하여 간략하게 살펴보았다. 이러한 조선후기에 간행된 한국 불교의식집의 도상에 대한 현황 및 유형별 구분은 향후 각각의 도상이 함축하고 있는, 불교는 물론 이외의 사상 내지 철학 등이 융합되어 있는 당시의 정신문화적 다원성을 자 세히 분석하는데 유용한 작업이라고 할 수 있다.
Although some of iconographies in the collections of Korean Buddhist rituals are remarkably different from other Buddhist paintings, they surely reveal the spirit of the communications between Buddhist members in order to join a contemporary trend. Thus, as the iconographies in the collections of Korean Buddhist rituals in the late Joseon period represent the ideas forming the basis of pluralistic cultural consciousness in philosophical or religious attitudes through harmonious convergence, they reveal the widened cultural spirit of acceptance for different religious or philosophical ideas. So the author classified them into the four categories of ‘the pure Buddhist paintings’, ‘the iconographies showing the influence of the elements of Chinese philosophy’, ‘the iconographies showing the influence of aboriginal religious factors’, and ‘the other iconographies’, in briefly surveying them in this article. This survey of iconographies in the collections of Korean Buddhist rituals according to their contemporary conditions and classifications can be said to be highly useful for detailed analysis of the spirit of cultural pluralism then.
