摘要
This paper presents the critical texts and annotated translations of the < Śāstraśarīra> part in the introduction of the Madhyāntavibhāgabhāṣya (MAV) and Madhyāntavibhāgaṭīkā (MAVṬ). In this part, It is shown that all the five chapters of the MAV consist of the following seven subject: (1)Characteristics (Lakṣaṇa), (2)Obstructions (Āvaraṇa), (3)Rearities (Tattva), (4)Cultivation of antidotes (Pratipakṣabhāvanā), (5)State Therein (Tatrāvasthā), (6)Acquisition of Results (Phalaprāpti), (7)Superlative vehicle (Yānānuttarya). MAV only enumerates these seven subjects and Vasubandhu comments on it very briefly, while MAVṬ explains in detail the purpose, composition, and order of the subjects of this treatise. The extant Sanskrit manuscript of MAVT. is damaged and imcomplete, and about one third of the original manuscript is missing. Consequently, Yamaguchi restored the missing portion by reconstructing the Sanskrit text from the corresponding Tibetan translation. But it is pointed out that Yamaguchi’s edition of MAVṬ has many problems mainly in the reconstructed Sanskrit text part. To improve Yamaguchi’s edition, I tried to present more reliable Sanskrit reconstruction by consulting parallel passages (the corresponding Tibetan words/phrases/sentences) in the Tibetan translation and reexamining carefully the extant Sanskrit manuscript.
