There are three similarities and one basic difference between the Zen and poem in the academic context of poetic wisdom. Firstly, the two are basically consistent in the consciousness, which is a kind of "non-objectivation", poetic subjective consciousness or modern philosophers’ "negative philosophical method" in essence. Secondly, both are highly consistent in the way of word transmission, which is one kind of poetic wisdom expressing system centered on the body actually. In the Zen, it is the body language, and in the poem, it is the rhythm contained inside the symbol and inherited from the rhythm of primitive songs and dances. Thirdly, the mind course of the subjective is interlinked. In some stage, both the Zen Buddhists and the poets pay attention to emotion, and have something unable to abandon, but the highest state reaches the same goal by different routes: the world state or the universe ontology, which is called "the stage of comprehension" in the Zen, and in the poem is called "the stage of perfection". The poem and the Zen also have a significant difference: the poem originates from Chinese poetic wisdom and its ontological foundation is the spirit of life which is also called "the great attribute of heaven and earth is the giving and maintaining life". The Zen originates the religious scholarship of death in India and its ontological foundation is the philosophy of death which is called "everything is empty after all". Although with the help of the study of the Zen, poets may clean up the impurity in the mind and raise their spirit state another level. But if "human desire and emotion" are cut off completely, the poem will lose its own historical, social and spiritual soil. |
