摘要The purpose of this paper is to propose that the practice of meditation can be useful in the treatment of depression and other mental disorders in conjunction with psychodynamic and other kinds of psychotherapy. Meditation brings a behavioral and “practice” component to a process of change that relies heavily on cognitive awareness and insight. In traditional psychoanalysis as well as in psychodynamic psychotherapy, patients explore the meanings, both conscious and unconscious, of their feelings, thoughts and behaviors and consider possibilities that they have not typically utilized. The process entails the activity of an “observing ego” that can notice and comment on one’s own behavior. Patients (or clients) try and learn about motivations driving their behavior with the generally unstated expectation that insight leads to change.
