| 摘要 | This paper analyzes representations of two specific figures, which repeatedly appear in the Buddhist mural paintings of Kucha. One of them can be surely identified as the Vidūṣaka, the courtly jester who is typical in Sanskrit drama text, while the other can be both the minister or the kañcukin. Both figures are the typical protagonists of Sanskrit / Tocharian theatrical literature, and thus indicate a possible connection between the representations of murals and the local Buddhist theatrical tradition in East Turkestan. |
