佛教經典的演繹 —— 以慈濟水懺演繹與七月吉祥月活動為探究核心=The Buddhist Sutra Interpretation and Performance: a Study Focus on Tzu-Chi’s Water Repentance and Auspicious Month of July
In this paper, I investigate the activities of Compassionate-Samadhi Water Repentance and Auspicious Month of July in Tzu Chi, explaining its origins, significances and values and also exploring its series of courses and social effects. The core value of Water Repentance and Auspicious Month of July is to put scriptures into practice and to attain purification of mind via the sutra interpretation and performance. It recruits different participants and art groups in order to be more effective in educating and influencing the public. Through the activities of Water Repentance and Auspicious Month of July, people not only repent their faults but improve themselves from egoism to altruism. That means positive effect of goodness gradually expands outward, including altruistic faith and action presented through the ethics among people, the protection of living beings, and the sincere vows. By collecting and summarizing the real stories of inner transformation of the masses, in the end I justify that the activities held by Tzu Chi indeed achieve the goals of mental purification and social education.
