| 摘要 | 本論文以格言英譯研究為核心，主要運用紐馬克的翻譯理論，另外參考其他關於修辭、語氣、符號使用的概念，綜合歸納《108自在語》英譯技巧及定義其文本類型及翻譯方法，並檢視英譯是否符合原文本方便推廣的特性。英譯技巧分析涵括結構、語義、詞彙等3個層面。 本研究發現《108自在語》在結構層面使用祈使、對稱、假設、問答、省略及合併5種句型，運用排比、設問、省略等修辭技巧及變動或換置技法；語義層面提及符號使用、增詞、連接詞、翻譯單位改變及詞性轉換，運用調節、格位缺口翻譯、成份分析及變動或換置等技法；詞彙層面涉及成語及佛學用語，前者運用功能性對等譯法；後者大多採用欠額翻譯技法。此外，雖然結構、語義、詞彙三層面皆為增進文本與讀者之間的溝通和理解，符合紐馬克定義之「呼籲」功能文本類型與「溝通翻譯」之特徵，但佛學用語的欠額翻譯則未能忠實原文本，降低原文本方便推廣的特性。 This paper is based on the study of English translation from quotations. Mainly through Newmark’s translation theory and other related concepts about rhetoric, the tone of speaking and usages of punctuation marks as reference, the paper aims to figure out the English translation techniques of 108 adages of wisdom, define the text and the translation method, and check whether the English translations are easy to promote as same as the original text does. The English translation technique analysis will be focused on three aspects that include sentence structures, semantics, proverbs and Buddhist terms. Regarding the research results, in the aspect of sentence structures, 108 adages of wisdom frequently uses imperative sentences, parallel sentences, conditional sentences, sentences in the form of questions and answers, sentence omissions and combinations that show the techniques of parallelism, rhetorical question, ellipsis, and shifts or transpositions. In the aspect of semantics, 108 adages of wisdom covers the usages of punctuation marks, additional words and conjunctions, changes of translation units and conversion of word forms that show the techniques of modulation, the translation of case-gaps, componential analysis and shifts or transpositions. Furthermore, proverbs and Buddhist terms are frequently appeared in 108 adages of wisdom. The former shows the technique of functional equivalent. The latter mostly shows the technique of under translation. Through the discussion, all three aspects aim to improve the comprehension and communication between the text and the readers that meet the explanations of text with the vocative function and features of communicative translation defined by Newmark. However, the technique of under translation used in Buddhist terms fails to fully convey the meanings of the original text that indicates the attempt to easily promote has been declined. |
