In the Late Tang and Five Dynasties, Dunhuang portrait eulogies were a kind of literature that combined portraits with eulogies, and were mainly used to help later generations in remembering and honoring their ancestors. The Pedigree of the Portraits of Family Fang now kept in Yuzhong county museum in Gansu Province is a genealogy formed in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It contains an article recalling relatives and old acquaintances which should be regarded as a portrait eulogy according to its style and content, and should therefore be closely related to the portrait eulogies of Dunhuang.
