Based on historical documents, image materials, and cave temple murals from the Yuan dynasty,this paper attempts to analyze the forms and characteristics of the seats depicted in the murals of the A-Er-Zhai Grottoes and observes that these seats are similar in form to the low beds and jeweled thrones popular in the Yuan dynasty. It also analyzes the form of the seats, the painting style, and the writing style of the cartouches in the A-Er-Zhai Grotto murals in an attempt to illustrate the time that these seats prevailed.
