Yongle Buddhist Bell maintained in the Museum of Big Bell Temple is an outstanding work in the ancient bronze making history. The huge body and more than 230,000 Chinese and Devanagari words make it the unreplacable position in the ancient bell making history both in and out of China. The words on the bell were written by imperial calligrapher of the Ming Dynasty, Shen Du. Study shows that the big bell was made in the year 1406 and completed in 1417. The big bell was also called “Huayan Bell”, but in the posy, there is no such a Sutra of Huayan so it may be because of the fact that Shen Du once wrote the Sutra of Huayan and people mistook it as the name of the bell.
