The article summarizes the literature concerning the detail of Xiangmo (subduing demon), analyses its developing track from Southern India, Northwestern Gandhara to Kizil in Xinjiang and Dunhuang in Gansum and holds that the detail in Kizil basically accords with Gandhara pattern and the detail in Dunhuang is closer to Gandhara than that of Kizil. As for the detail of this Xiangmo, namely the son of demon obstructing his father, the literature narration appeared first, then the pictorial presentation came into being. After the pictorial presentation of this tale became typical mode in Gandhara, it influenced the literature narration, turning the pictorial detail into literature detail and at last settling it as a tradition of the literature narration.
