The extant Temple of Potaraka Doctrine, an imitation of Potala Palace standing in Jehol (Rèhé) in the northern area of present Hebei province looks quite different from what it used to be when first constructed in Emperor Qianlong’s( 乾隆 ) reign after years of demolishment and restoration throughout the middle and late Qing dynasty and the 20th century. However, based on a textual research of historical archives and photography, field survey and interviews with the technicians involved in the restoration programs of the architectural complex, this paper intends to present its original structure and arrangement, date of reconstruction and names of the buildings by determining the positions of the vanished Wuliang Fuhai Dian (Hall of Immeasurable Sea of Happiness) and Jiujian Fang (Nine Rooms), the reshaped and rearranged Dahongtai Qunlou (Great Red Platform Buildings), Yuzuo Lou (Throne Hall) zone and Pingtai Dian (Hall on The Deck), the added constructions of Tazhao Ting (Tower-Cover Pavilion) and Qianfo Ge (Thousand Buddha Pavilion), and the buildings which are absent in the records or misjudged functionally such as Ya Man Da Ga Lou (Yamataka) and Ya Ba Yuan (the Dumb Yard), etc.
