Baize-jingguai-tu(p.2682),which is kept at the National Library of France(the Bibliothéque Nationale de France),is considered one of the most precious texts in research on Dunhuang fortune-telling books.Though there have been many treatises on this manuscript, little attention has been given to its nature-for example, the manuscript’s history and its owners.Especially, most of the treatises regard Baize-jingguai-tu as baize-tu,an ancient book with paintings and names of evil spirits as well as measures to exorcise them.It was believed to have been lost in the Song dynasty.By studying the original manuscript, this paper first explains its history, then concludes that Baize-jingguai-tu is different from baize-tu,and finally discusses the nature of this manuscript.
