| 摘要 | Sima Jinlong, a sideline descendant of the royal Sima clan of the Eastern Jin and a Tufa princess, died in 484. His tomb was discovered in 1965 near Datong, Shanxi. Several art works among the 454 unearthed objects from the tomb - such as the famous painted lacquer screen with scenes of Lienii zhuan and the celadon spittoon - carry unmistakably characteristics of the South. These works have ever since been considered examples par excellence of the great impacts of the Southern Chinese culture exerted on the Tuoba. Yet, when taking the burials of the Pingcheng period (398-494) of the Northern Wei as a whole into consideration, these art works appear to be isolated and do not seem to be integrated into the common burial practices during the Pingcheng period. Recent excavations near Datong indicate the formation of an independent Tuoba funerary culture. Their use of a large amount of clay figurines of warriors and attendants in Xianbei costumes and of stone couches with Buddhist ornaments, for example, may imply that Hexi was one of the major sources of the newly formed burial tradition of the Tuoba. A greater part of the grave goods from the tomb of Sima Jinlong fit well into this trend. Thus, it is necessary to reconsider the theory of cultural influences exerted directly by the Southern Chinese. |
