Since their first discovery at the beginning of the 20th century. some of the Wanfo Temple carvings have found their way into some good catalogues, and some even went abroad for exhibition. However,no official report has yet been published so far on these carvings, let alone a scientific research. In July and August 2000, students and teachers from the School of Archaeology and Museology, Beijing Univer-sity, joined with the Chengdu Archaeological Team in sorting up these carvings in a systematic way.
