| 摘要 | The beginning of Avalokitesvara includes both the accomplishment of mundane desire and attaining Buddhahood. The Surangama Sutra provides the ground for the homogeneous aspects of Seon practice and Avalokitesvara`s conduct, especially through the penetrating Indriya of Hearing. The Surangama Sutra includes a clue to understanding the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Esoteric Buddhism and sheds light on the reason for the co-existence and harmony between Seon practice and Esoteric Buddhism. An understanding of the characteristics of Korean Buddhism can be achieved by understanding Esoteric Buddhism as it appears in Avalokitesvara belief as the belief is linked not only to the traditional ideas of Hwaeom (華嚴 Huayan) and Seon thought but also to that of Pure Land, Mind-only and Cheontae (天台 Tiantai), etc., in Korean Buddhism. |
