| 摘要 | Minjung theology in Korea occupies part of Third World Christian theologies. This book adeptly introduces the fundamentals of minjung theology with a focus on its first‐generation theologians. Although tending to resist a single definition, minjung is often described as the people who are oppressed, exploited, and alienated. Küster narrates the historical context in which minjung theology emerged from the larger minjung movement in 1970s Korea. Paintings of minjung artists were presented to show the minjung characteristics. Küster engages with key minjung theologians. Ahn Byung‐Mu postulates an analogy between the Markan ochlos and the Korean minjung. Christology becomes the hermeneutical key to understanding minjung experiences: the minjung recognize their suffering in Christ's Passion, and the Jesus event becomes present in minjung events. To Suh Nam‐Dong, Korea's minjung traditions, including mask dances, Maitreya Buddhism, and Tonghak, are points of contact in which God's liberating acts in history become visible in the suffering of minjung. Hyun Young‐Hak argues that God has worked through Korea's history and traditions, rather than being imported by Western missionaries. Kim Yong‐Bock reconstructs a view on Korean history “from below” by making use of messianic and apocalyptic categories. Finally, Chung Hyun‐Kyung points to the presence of Jesus in Asian women's suffering. Calling women “the minjung within the minjung,” she propagates “survival‐liberation centered syncretism.” Except for Chung, this book rarely engages with younger minjung theologians. It is however, an excellent introduction to this important theological movement, and is recommended to anyone who is interested in global Christianity or Asian religions. |
