| 摘要 | This volume is an extremely thorough and scholarly resource in religious ethics, containing comprehensive essays by fifty‐seven scholars, some of them quite well known. The book is divided into three parts: moral inquiry, moral traditions, and moral issues. The moral inquiry section is divided into the categories of reflection, transmission, and comparison, and covers important concepts that a good introduction to ethics should include, such as ethical theories, sources for moral reasoning, and pluralism. The moral traditions section is where several different religious traditions are explored, including Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Indian/Hindu, Chinese, and African approaches to ethics. The moral issues section addresses a wide variety of topics, including economics, ecology, technology, human rights, and responsibility to future generations. The principal strength of this volume is its religious diversity. It also takes into account global diversity and the impact of this on religious traditions in their approaches to ethics. It is very contemporary, cutting edge, and scholarly. The book would be of particular interest to scholars in religious ethics, including doctoral students, and some essays could also be utilized at the master's level. It would be a perfect textbook for students in an upper‐level class on religious ethics or as a resource for those teaching such classes. It would also be an excellent reference for any library collection. |
