| 摘要 | The writer presents an open letter to the strict atheist Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion, which offers a Buddhist response to Dawkins's concept of atheism. He explains that Dawkins's views on religion are principally derived from the Christian paradigm and define religion as an irrational belief in a supreme being depicted in anthropomorphic terms who is responsible for the creation of the universe and who concerns himself intimately with the activities of all creatures. He defines religion in rather different terms, seeing it as man's endeavor to respond to life correctly. He outlines some of the shortcomings of a specifically Christian-influenced thought and clarifies that Buddhism, which offers a system of mind training that the Buddha himself personally found effective, contrasts with monotheistic religions in that the Buddha did not lay down commandments that he insisted his followers accept. |
