| 摘要 | The text of a lecture delivered by the Venerable Sochu at the Buddhist Society Summer School 2010 is presented. The writer focuses on the Sat̄ıpạṭth̄ana Sutra, translated as the Four Foundations of Mindful Awareness, which contains the spirit of Buddhist practice for meditation but, more importantly, elucidates the cultivation of mindful awareness in activities. He discusses the Buddha's teachings on the Four Foundations of Mindful Awareness—body, feeling, mind, and mind objects (the dhammas)—which form the basis of Buddhist practice. To explain what the Buddha is referring to when these terms are used he describes the Buddhist concepts of “citta”—the place where consciousness arises—and “sat̄ı”—awareness or openness to experience. He concludes with an interesting story whose message reveals that an individual is not required to go to a temple or a high mountain peak for the cultivation of mindful awareness; rather, it is something a person can do wherever s/he is, letting her/his life be just as it is. |
