| 摘要 | The author examines the lives of a group of exiled Burmese monks in the U.S. as of January 2011. The daily eating habits of monks are described, including a small breakfast of oatmeal and a second and final meal that must be eaten before noon. The four cardinal rules that every Buddhist monk should follow are discussed, including not killing or stealing. The monks are supported by the Burmese immigrant community, providing them with daily meals and cash donations. The biggest challenge for these monks is staying in the monkhood, according to the author. |
