摘要Through the development of science and technology, time and space have been conquered. Inhabits of earth are now sojourning in space. In spite of incredible scientific progress made by human society, there is no peace in the minds of men because the world today witnesses increasing violence in various forms: wars, terrorist attacks, genocide, social and ethnic conflicts, extremism, atrocities on women etc. What is the reason for this crisis? A serious pondering on the question tells that the decline of religious feeling, lack of morality, and excess inclination towards material prosperity have made man impoverish his faith and deprive himself of peace of mind. Buddhism is the religion of peace. At present the world as a single family through compassion and universal love and change the perspective of world towards peace.

This volume focuses on different aspects of Buddhist teachings and its time honored principles like peace, non-violence and harmony. It includes thirty eight papers presented by Buddhist monks, scholars, academicians, and experts in the field at the national seminar organised by the Department History, University PG College, Kakatiya University, on 12th and 13th September, 2009. It provides solutions to the problems of the modern society and deals with topics like the position of women, psychology, philosophy, moral status of animals, ecology, casteism, etc. The volume also brings out new findings of Buddhist art, culture and architecture while offering a commentary on different religions in relation to Buddhism. In short, the volume provides a comprehensive review of the principles of Buddhism and its relevance to world peace and harmony.

The volume, thus has an ample fare for those who sincerely desire to see the human race live life in peace and enjoy the fruits of human birth and for those who want to spread the message of Buddha throughout the world.
