To make researches on Xuanyan poetry,we must understand its definition and development. Xuanyan poetry,in fact,is the poems to comprehend Xuanli including the theories of three Xuan and Buddhism in the thinking way of Xuanxue(metaphysics). The key to research on the development of Xuanyan poetry is to fix its initial stage, which involve its definition and comprehension of “He Yan and his like are superficial".In my opinion,the “superficiality" means ostentation which is the title of Heyan’s behavior.
