According to this thesis, Bai Juyi's Buddhism knowledge was a combination of three aspects: discipline, meditation and wisdom. He focused on both the comprehension and the practice of the Buddhism doctrines. In his mind, "meditation" is the cause of "wisdom", "discipline" is the root of "wisdom". These three aspects are interrelated and interactive. This kind of opinion guided his thoughts and practice throughout his life and was also embodied in his poetry and articles. This thesis is dedicated to conduct a pilot study on this matter.
