| 摘要 | 梁漱溟是中國近現代史上著名的思想家和社會活動家。「五四」運動後，1921年他出版了《中西文化及其哲學》一書，從此學術界一致公認他是一個儒家學者，且聲名大噪，而他自己也宣稱已由佛家轉變到儒家了。之後，他一直是以儒家面目出現在學術界，並活躍在政治舞台上，受到社會各界的尊敬。 近幾年來有許多學者為他做傳記，皆以儒家學者為其立說，其中有一本是美國學者艾愷先生(Guy S. Alitto)寫的，書名為《最後的儒家－－梁漱溟與現代中國的困境》(The Last Confuciam: Liang Shu-ming and The Chinese dilemma of modernity)。稱他為「最後的儒家」，從字面講，這「最後」兩個字，作如何解釋，難道以後就不會再出現儒家學者了嗎？這恐怕不合乎邏輯吧！ 然而，現在的問題是我們應當如何看梁漱溟，具體說來他究竟是一個儒家呢？還是一個佛家？因為他在晚年時曾說自已「是一個佛教徒」。又說，說他是一個儒家也可以。這個問題應當怎麼對待？若我們仍用過去的老眼光看他，這恐怕不太適合了吧。本文想借助前人「以經解經」的方法，根據我們所掌握的材料及認識，試作一番考察，提出我們的看法，請專家和讀者批評指證。我們的意見：梁漱溟是一位佛家，而且自始至終都是位佛家﹔有時雖以儒家面目出現，但其靈魂仍然是佛家。 Liang Shuming was a prominent thinker, a self-taught India scholar, a rural reconstructionist and social activist in modern China. Since the publication of his book Chinese and Western Cultures and Their Philosophies (1921), he has been regarded in academic circles as a Confucian scholar. He made the claim himself that he had transformed himself from a Buddhist into a Confucian. This article revises the view, established by Guy S. Alitto in 1979, that Liang was "the last Confucian." Drawing on some previously unavailable sources, including several interviews with Liang conducted by one of the authoes (Bai Ji'an), this article examines his thoughts and actions, as well as his life. It is argued here which helps to explain his attitudes towards political developments in the pre-Communist period. ※ |
