The root text #161, the subject matter of dependent origination: The Buddha has said, "From the loss of intrinsic awareness comes action; from this, perception; from perception come name and patterns; from these the six bases of perception; and from these come all forms of rapport. From rapport come all feelings; with feeling as its foundation, craving arises; from craving arises appropriation; and from this, one's 'potential life-form'; from a potential life-form arises birth. When there is birth, frustrations such as misery, sickness, and the poverty that results from desires, death, fears and so on increase. When birth no longer takes place, everything comes to an end. |
