| 摘要 | Summary: In the history of the current Buddhist teaching, the concept of the Buddha has gone through a process of development, refinement and then extension of the original meaning, with new meanings being added to former meanings. This may be summarized as a development from Teacher/Arahat to an Extraordinary human being, then to a Superhuman transcendental being; a Permanent living being; then as the embodied Dharma/teaching, the Ultimate or Absolute Reality; and finally not as something external to be achieved but the potential ability within each living being to achieve Enlightenment. |
