| 目次 | I. 「懺悔」の諸相と行為主體 II. 『法華經』におけるデーシャナーの形態 English Abstract When we consider the internal factors that ushered in the emergence of Mahayana Buddhism，we cannot disregard the existence of the quest for the being who can accept deep religious introspections on the part of the contemporary Buddhists. The concept of 'desana' (懺悔，confession) occupied important position in Buddhist sutras prior to the emergence of Mahayana Buddhism. In the Early Buddhist literature，grasping of present birth as the result of one's past karma was considered to have close connection with the moksas of the religious practitioners. The present author has once discussed elsewhere on the forms of Desana and the significance of the practice (i.e.，"Forms of Confession and its signification in Buddhist Literature"，Okurayama Bunkakaigi Kenkyunenpo [『大倉山文化會議研究年報』]，No. 2，1990). When we study the forms of desana, we can recognize the characteristics of Mahayana Buddhism in them. The Buddhas of the Ten Directions discussed in Mahayana Buddhism are depicted as the beings that can accept the desanas of the religious practitioners. The Buddhas and the so-called Dharma-bodied Great Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism are also depicted as the beings who can accept even the sins that exit from the eternal past (apatti，atyaya [accaya]). While the confessions of the Buddha's disciples appeared in Mahayana Buddhist literature are caused to be made due to the influence of the new type of Buddhism，we can also find a certain continuous trend from the days of the Buddha in them. From such a standpoint，in this paper，first，we discuss the forms of desana observed in Buddhist literature. Then，we go on to examine the significances of the contents of confessions made by Buddha's disciples, as depicted in the Saddharmapundarika-sutra. In this way，we try to examine the philosophical background of the emergence of Mahayana Buddhism. |
