| 摘要 | Pomp'ae [Buddhist ritual chant] was originated by Ts'ao Chih (192-232) of China, according to Chinese records. The name is derived from the Sanskrit brahma bhan [sacred chanting]. Following the introduction of Buddhism into Korea during the 4th c.，Buddhist chant has played an important role in Korean music. The author discusses Buddhist chant (hossori and chissori)，and describes the way pomp'ae is realized in performance (with reference to the choreography of the Butterfly Dance). |
