| 摘要 | Performed in the past as part of the summer rites to exorcise hungry ghosts and purify the community,Mu-lien opera draws powerfully on images of filiality, karmic retribution, and Buddhist salvation. The lines dividing priest from actor and audience from performers are frequently demolished, framing and producing transformations and contradictions at the heart of the performance. Like their predecessors, socialist government officials attempt to control and limit the genre's audience and appeal. |
