| 摘要 | The musical synthesis of nomai (a masked dance drama accompanied by flute,drum,cymbals, and singing) reflects the syncretic religious practices of medieval Japan. The Shinto foundation of nomai is evident in the instrumentation,instrumental melodies, and the use of kagura dances and song texts. These aspects evoke a sacred time and place associated with Shinto,and promote reverence and prayer to the gods. The Buddhist contribution includes song melodies, the religious significance attached to the instruments, and emphasis on ritual exorcism. The positioning of Buddhist elements onto a Shinto-based tradition parallels the process Buddhists achieved in establishing Ryobu Shinto and exhibits Buddhism's general tendency to blend with other religions and honor local deities. The incorporation of other traditions exemplifies the openness of Japanese culture at a time when it was developing a character of its own. |
