| 摘要 | The book attempts first to determine what meaninglessness means and then how meaning and meaninglessness are related. After distinguishing four major kinds of meaning，meaning in its broadest sense is characterized as an interpretation or projection thrown upon the world，the recognition of which provides the basic sense of meaninglessness. This indicates the paradox and the solution of the modern problem of meaninglessness. Meaninglessness is problematic only where the recognition of projection is unfavorably contrasted with a nonprojection sense of meaning in which meaning is naively identified with reality，which the book argues is contradictory and untenable. |
