| 摘要 | It seems that there was some difference in the way in which ancient Japan and other East Asian countries assimilated Buddhism. A characteristic of how Mahayana Buddhism was disseminated can especially be seen in the founding principles ;of the Tendai Hokke denomination,as they concerned the Mahayana Temple, the Mahayana precepts and the Mahayana Bodhisattva. The ideas of the Mahayana precepts and Mahayana Bodhisattva are based upon the teachings in the Bonmo-kyo (Brahma-net Sutra). In the course of history, these ideas gradually resulted in a new style of Buddhism. The modern Japanese Tendai sect sets its religious educational policies firmly on the understanding of the Tendai teachings. Tendai recommends acting in the spirit of "forgetting the self and benefiting others." The idea applies to one's own practice of self-reflection,and to save and guard others from the various difficulties they face in society. Although present day Tendai has not realized this ideal, the spirit of the doctrine lives on in the sect. |
