| 摘要 | This essay aims at exploring how "inner temperamental vitality" constitutes the aesthetic theory of our traditional painting, pointing out the fundamental attitude and requirement in our appreciation of beauty. "Inner temperamental vitality" is one of the remarkable features in China's traditional painting,a unique spirit of aesthetic judgement of our people. Then whence does "inner temperamental vitality" come from? Was it endowed by God? Or was it postnatally acquired through cultivation and study? Dung Chichang (董其昌 1555-1636),a scholar of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644),pointed out:"Inner temperamental vitality" cannot be acquired from study,it was imbued from birth and endowed by nature." After the careful study of what Dung said, the author thinks that Dung touched only one source of "inner temperamental vitality." This essay is to discuss about sources of a painter's accomplishment and thinking, which, the author thinks, can be traced to his inner potential power, that is, the essential element of "inner temperamental vitality." It can be cultivated and nurtured through our means:(1) storing up energy,(2) keeping a broad mind and a quiet soul of observation; reading 10,000 copies of books and walking 10,000 miles; (4) improve morality and personality. By these we can explain why the attainment of a painter is closely related with his creation. "A scholar must have capacity and judgement before he can engage himself in literature and art." (Ku Yim-wu,顧炎武 1613-1682,an early Ch'ing scholar). It is pity that modern education merely pays special attention to knowledge, only one among the five aspects of education. Hsiung Shili (熊十力,1885-1968) once said of the prevailing trend:"Today in school education, students are required to learn all kinds of academic knowledge and skills, and nothing more." Little importance is attached to moral education,as for aesthetic education,it is hardly even mentioned at all. Now in order to enhance the quality of education, educators ought to pay more attention to the aesthetic education, which is one significant facet of humanistic education,a way leading to the perfect union of arts with human life. |
