| 摘要 | A transcript of a talk given at the 1996 Buddhist Society Summer School. The writer takes an imaginative approach to the mythology and symbolism surrounding the lives of two remarkable men who each undertook the classic quest，the mythic journey：Siddhartha Gautama and C. G. Jung. She notes that Siddhartha sought the way to "a lost，ancient city" to find the ending of all ill and that Jung took the legendary，dreadful journey to the underworld because he believed that it held the key to previously incurable mental disease. She asserts that the unique status of Buddhism as a nontheistic religion that requires no obligation to believe anything makes it appropriate for a mythological comparison with Jung's Western depth psychology. Both, she explains, are empirical and unrestricted by taboos or preconditions. |
