| 摘要 | Drawing on some of the etymological implications of the word "dialectic" "(dia-lego)"，the author proposes four types of dialectic：(1) traditional logic; (2) existentialist ("either/or") dialectic; (3) synthetic ("both-and") dialectic; and (4) "neither/nor" dialectic. Kierkegaard is a good example of (2); Hegel is a proponent of (3); and the Buddhist Nagarjuna is the best example of (4). The author shows that the disjunctive nature of (2) and (4) has an extra-logical motive：to force us to realize that philosophy cannot answer the fundamental questions of nature and/or man. I also show that like traditional logic "neither/nor" dialectic does not violate the law of contradiction. |
