A review of Buddha in India: The Development of Early Indian Art from Ashoka to the Gupta Period, an exhibition at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna, from April 2 to July 16, 1995. Presenting some 240 objects, this major show traces the development of sculpture from its beginnings in the 3rd century B.C. to the 4th and 5th centuries A.D. It demonstrates that Buddhism was a decisive agent in the overall development of Indian art.
