| 摘要 | The art of Mongolia in the empire of Chinggis Kahn is discussed，on the occasion of the exhibition "Mongolia：The Legacy of Chinggis Khan," which opened on July 19，1995，at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Chinggis Kahn is known for his 13th-century conquest of an empire that eventually extended from the Korean Peninsula to the outskirts of Vienna. The reputation of his ruthless hordes of soldiers has endured until today，but the show presents a different picture. The exhibition begins with an exploration of Mongolia's traditional nomadic way of life，with portable works such as saddles and personal jewelry on display. It proceeds through the reconversion of the Mongols to Tibetan Buddhism in the 16th and 17th centuries, with items like the Yama mask，used in public festivals held to promote Buddhism on show. It culminates in the work of Mongolia's greatest artist Zanabazar (1635-1723)，including the Standing Maitreya statue. |
