| 摘要 | The Japanese monastic overcostumes known as kesa are discussed on the occasion of the exhibition "Kesa, the Elegance of Japanese Monks' Robes, " at the Seattle Art Museum until November 3，1996. Originating in southern Asia, the kesa is a sacred symbol of Buddhism and is regarded as a physical manifestation of Buddhist teachings. The show focuses on the robes of the Edo (1615-1868) and Meiji (1868-1912) periods. |
