| 摘要 | Bhutan is the last survivor of the Buddhist kingdoms ranged along the Himalayas. It is the only country in the world where the official religion is the Tibetan or Tantric form of Mahayana Buddhism and a derivative of classical Tibetan is the prevailing official language. Bhutan has felt threatened by a growing Nepali population，and is under pressure from cultural inundation from its neighbor，India. The traditional robes, language，art，architecture，and national social code of conduct of Tibetan Buddhism is now required by law or common practice all over Bhutan. The writer goes on to discuss traditional architectural styles and modes of dress, before considering the impact that imposing such a law has had upon Bhutan. |
