| 摘要 | The survival of Tibetan architecture in monasteries in India and Nepal is discussed. Tibetan architecture as practiced until 1959,when the Dalai Lama fled Tibet, was influenced by the Tantric form of Buddhism embraced by Tibetans. Tibet's first monastery,Samye, built in 750,adopted a mandala plan that became the blueprint for all temple architecture, which was built as a communal act. Other shared features include beautifully carved and painted columns consisting of 16 sections and often filled with religious objects. These and other traditions have survived in exile among small communities of refugees in India and Nepal. The original mandala plan has survived and reemerged as the central design principle. The architectural detailing, including 16-level columns, has survived despite the widespread use of concrete. The communal nature of Tibetan architecture has died out, however,as the participation of the laity in the building process has ceased. |
