| 摘要 | "Sacred Visions:Early paintings from Central Tibet" is a traveling exhibition on show at the Metropolitan Museum in New York through January 19,1999. This groundbreaking show brings together 60 painted works from the mid 11th to mid 15th centuries that are now preserved in private and public Western collections and is the first ever exhibition to chart the development of early Tibetan Buddhist painting. Focusing on the period known as Chidar, when Buddhism became the dominant religion in Tibet, this exhibition has provided the foundations of an art historical analysis, although it may be too late to achieve a full account of the subject, given the Chinese attempts to demolish the Tibetans' religion, language, and culture. |
