| 摘要 | The tapestry work of Jon Eric Riis is discussed. Riis, who has been involved in Tibetan Buddhism，creates texture in his tapestries with freshwater pearls--a common element in Tibetan Buddhist art--and metallic thread，thereby moving the tapestry out of its traditional role as a venue for a scene into a more tactile realism. Since Buddhism holds that appearances are illusionary，however，he plays to a deeper realism beyond the tactile，his light handling making the subject approachable. Humor runs through the work，allowing the viewer deeper understanding of the ideas of beauty and the ontological question of consciousness. |
