| 摘要 | During the recent restoration of The King of the Li Yul,a 17th-century Tibetan painting at the Musee national des arts asiatiques Guimet,Paris, two inscriptions were discovered that led to a new hypothesis concerning the identity of the central figure and the surrounding context. The Li Yul is a Tibetan term for the kingdom of Khotan in Central Asia. The first inscription refers to a king of the Li Yul who may well have been the king during whose reign Buddhism was introduced to the kingdom:Vijaya sambhava. The second inscription suggests that the painting was one of a series, probably of the reincarnations of Avalokitesvara, where the King of Khotan preceded or replaced one of the mythical sovereigns of Tibet. This extensive restoration program has highlighted the originality of the piece within the sman-bris style and suggests a date of ca. 1642--the early reign of the 5th Dalai Lama--rather than the late 17th century. |
